Description:

Donated as part of the Aidan O'Haracollection, this recording was made during the period between 1974 and 1978 whenAidan O'Hara collected the songs of the people from the Cape Shore of Newfoundland. The people living in this region were mostly descendants of settlers from the southeast of Ireland, brought out by the Sweetman family of New Ross and Waterford early in the nineteenth century. Recordings were made on a portable Uher 200 Report IC reel-to-reel (recordings made in 1978 in conjunction with the collecting efforts of Kenneth S. Goldstein were collected on a Nagra reel-to-reel using professional microphones).

Aidan's notes indicate that 'Going to mass last Sunday' is sometimes also known as 'As I walked out one morning.'
